If my activity level was not adequate then I should have been warned.

At the very least if there was some kind of action going on in my province I should have been told so I could react as opposed to automatically marching out to meet the rebels. If I had been contacted I would have no problem with this but frankly I'm quite disappointed with how this was conducted.

I finally got my all my university assessments out of the way and just got back in from Army exercises out bush. So now armed with time to spare I log in expecting to be able to move some troops around in my province and assist in dealing with the Freigoth problem. Yet what do I find? My character is dead and I don't have any new e-mails let alone a private message....

Can someone please explain to me why this happened this way...

Not happy Jan

Well if you're still alive, I'm still in Septem so feel free to drop by for some scones!

My ICQ has been screwing up so at the moment I'm only contactable on here and via e-mail.

Ed, would you mind dropping me an e-mail at matty_macca_saints@hotmail.com to let me know what's going on? Sorry I've been away, I've been INSANELY busy and still will be until friday. Still, I'm jumping in early after hearing of this.

Of course... your timing is eerie. It would be easy to assume that you and Matthew check the site often enough for whatever reason, and just happend to see that I 'killed' Statius. I'm not assuming that though.

However, were this many months ago when the game was more active, I would have told you that some warning to ME would have been nice too, and that there are no 'save points' where you can expect to return to the same exact spot when 'activity allows'. No sir, not then. Now of course, sure. What the hell. Had I known you were actually busy I would have emailed you before I fiddled with the grand scheme of things.

Email me and we'll work out a storyline. I don't really want you dead if you're going to have time for the game.

For the rest of you (and you, unhappy Jan), the new game will not allow random lengths of inactivity without repercussion. Status and influence WILL be dependant on activity levels, and no- emails 'outlining' a characters schedule won't cut it. You will expect to see situations change when you aren't active. Allies shift, economic situations change, public support changes, etc. In the new game, Emperor AJV wouldn't be elected Consul because he's not active enough. In the new game, if a players like Vitellius Vibius Varro or Tullius Quinus Vitellius took a few IC years off and left their characters inactive, they would not come back to the same level of importance from which they left. They would have to work back up the ladder. It would take longer periods of inactivity for very important players to lose vast amounts of influence and power, because their influence and power was so great. Lesser characters would lose the good stuff much faster, for obvious reasons.

This isn't the new game yet though, so... let's just assume if you don't wanr me you're going to be away, i'm going to tinker with your character. I don't want lingering PC storylines that just magically reappear all wonderful when someone decides they have an itch to play. I know that wasn't you, Jan or Matthew.

Anyway, wee. Let's play.

Yer sorry Jay, I should have sent you an e-mail. I've been checking the site every day but I've been too busy to do more than let my character sit in Septem for the moment and read the news/rumors.

I'll be able to play properly again from friday :) promise

(and I'll keep things running until then as well seeing as peple are a-knocking on Septem's gate)

Here's an important question then.

Say our characters are just coasting.

Doing daily commander duties if in a legion (that is, patrols, construction, etc).... or adhering to our last submitted daily routine if we are stuck in Rome... we check the site.. we post when its reasonable for our characters to... but that can still be a week or two between a VISIBLE presence, even if, reasonably, our characters are still going.

example my Lucius Carus. He's still in Rome. still attending every senate sitting, the forum, and then visiting the remnants of his legion now in the Emperors personal service each and every day. Sometimes I can post to the senate when my character feels like being drawn out, but more often than not he's silent. He isnt after status, prestige, or allies that activity would require, though I am sure he's developing his share of enemies.

In essence, I can look inactive, even if I am checking the webpage 3 or 4 times a day. Would this get me suddenly killed, when its "assumed" I am inactive simply becuase my character isnt being public?

No. In this instance your character would be fine. There would be other negative drawbacks of course, but 'thinning of the herd' wouldn't apply to the character. If you were a Legate of a legion out in Moesia, and you were trying to scrape by on the same schedule, it wouldn't work.

Ha ha...

There has never been a rule that a player must submit full length scenarios. I've always encouraged it because I like very much the literary aspect of the game. Small, regular 'email scenarios' outlining events, procedure, thoughts, actions, etc from a player are acceptable, and have been. Mark Turner, who plays Tullius Fortunus Julianus, has been doing that, as well as Francisco, who plays Fuvanius Rufus Sabaco. If possible I try to fit them in with another pertinent scenario, but even if they don't get published they count for activity.

You, Nick, I know CAN write. A page here and there isn't too much to expect, is it? :P

I love it when I poke around RL and still find Vibius' name whispered in fear. Vast amounts of influence indeed.

Though I have to say, Augustus is more dear to my heart than Vibius.
