New Site

Postby JayYoon on Thu May 14, 2009 10:05 am

So is the relaunching of the game on a new site not happening? The last I heard, it was supposed to start in March. It's May now, and there isn't a word on the new game.

Nor do I see John, Phil, Joe, Ben, and Micah around. Is it just you at the moment JayMic?

Hello hello.

Micah is deleted from the RL universe. Ben is... Joe is going to be building the new site when... John and Phil finalize the bits and pieces they are both currently working on.

As for current game administration, it's just me. I. If you want to help think up news and rumors... all help is appreciated.

The new game IS coming though. Rest assured.

Where the path goes.. doesnt matter to me.

The fact that the game has continued this long with just JayM at the helm (at least visibly) is impressive enough. And I think sole blame/thanks for that lays on JayM's shoulders alone. The game would be dead (at least till the new one starts up) without him.

Storylines managed by my lonesome are more flexible and continue with less fear of GM slaughtering than when there were three. Or four, even. While I confess there are times when I want to sit down and write how the story goes for all of you, and stab any and all characters who disagree... It isn't as much fun as cooperating, and I have a lot of fun.

I've made it perfectly crystal clear that my long absence from this game was drawing to an end and that I had interest in rejoining. I even authored a scenario a few months back. This has probably been my longest hiatus from the game (and it's to the point where the story line isn't even recognizable).

I've held off from starting on this forum because I thought that the new game would be up and running around March. But seeing as how there is no current set date, how do the mechanisms of the game work?

I mean without the wiki, is there even a list of characters that are played? NPC lists? List of estates? Family trees? Bills passed? Bills up for vote? Legions and their commanders?

What am I missing? how is this game still running?

The game works like this:

I know players characters. Anyone can ask for clarification, though now that you mention it I should post a roster.

There is a list of legions. Anyone can ask to see it. The Emperor and the Magister Militum have it too.

The treasury is updated via a post in the Senate every year. Any specific questions just need to be asked.

Proposals work the same, though it's up to the Consules to post them for vote. Posting for vote now is simply replying to the thread that it is 'up for vote'. Players are responsible for sending in how they and their NPCs vote. Results are posted as a pass/fail with any pertinent remarks. Anyone can request to see how players voted. NPC votes are still factored in like before, though not as heavily as when JOM commanded the NPC roster.

Without the wiki, players are forced to read scenarios to learn facts. It's difficult, I know, but works. Much of what keeps the game working at the moment is fairness and cooperation among the players. Everyone generally gets along well, though not everyone writes as fast as I would like.

Oh, and Rumors and News works the same way it always did.

And... Every three days is a month. I make posts every month change on the PF, under the RL Time thread.

:)

Joe isn't going to make a new site hes the laziest SOB I ever met... not to mention the last time he actually DID work for the site he set a goal where the members had to donate a certain amount of money... and that was the only way he would add "new features" after we raised over $200 he added the relationship function... and gave us a page recognizing our contributions. $75 of which I donated myself. If you guys really want a new site your better off doing it yourself instead of waiting on Joe. I had aspirations on creating my own run-off on Roman Legion however that flaked fast when no motivation was behind it.

I could be wrong but Phenominet hosted the site freely and I'll put money saying Joe isn't going to do it for free... so who's going to flip the bill and hosting fees?

Every month this gets put off the less ex players check-in and the less current players remain motivated. I plan to return to play however none of you SOB's will know who I am

Jason, considering how much time it takes to manualy code these new feautres, I fully think paying Joe for the time is reasonable.

Remember.. he's as much a volunteer as any of us. The difference is, you get to play, he gets to work. So grow up, seriously, stop making demands on other peopels time for your enjoyment, and realize we have much of a responsibility to see them enjoying their time as they have to ensure we enjoy ours.

Isnt Phenominet the site we were using? Where one of the staff members of the sight went all freaky and tried to shut our game down becuase we wouldnt make her an admin? yeah.. a real site we want to use for free hosting.

I wont comment on the things regarding what Jason said about Joe since the initial set of questions had nothing to do with Joe and money (to which I contributed a significant amount of... the end goal was 250 I believe, not 200).

But I must say that the players continuing to play on the current forum are quite admirable in their ability to adapt to a far... simpler method of gaming.

I for one, having heard Jay Michael's briefing on the current status of the game, will sure as hell not bother wasting time into it.

I do hope, that the new site comes along quickly. Otherwise, I must agree with Jason and say that all hope of ever seeing the Roman Legions game up and running at full potential are slim to none.

The current state of the game isn't for everyone. The new game, when it comes, will be better than the last. Joe IS going to be building it and the GMs are fronting the hosting cost. We were lucky before to have a hosting company that didn't charge, but it ended up costing in other ways.

Grow up?... I'm not saying anything wrong simply put that JayM is doing all the work and think he should be calling the shots not John or Phil. I have been apart of this game just as long as the two of you "AJV and Carus" actually longer. Its no secret our PC's never got along in game so drop it.

I think its great if the sites going to be up soon I can't wait. You two's constant nagging at me you remind me of nuthugers get off my nuts damnit their bens.

I retain my right to show up whenever I want until the new site is started. JayM, you know you can email me and I'll respond if you need any assistance at all. I love you. Jason, I hope you perish in a horrible, horrible fire that wipes out you and your loved ones.

on side note i do hate to agree with jason slightly but if hosting isnt free then...... GM's disappear just like players so if one disappears then....? thats a nightmare on the 3 2 or even 1 GM that remains. can they pick up the cost alone? will they pick up the cost alone?

I think we need to know stuff like that seeing as if the GM'S go it might fall to a few of our players to...pick up the check
