Proposal: Provisional Warehouses in Macedonia and Thracia

Proposal: Provisional Warehouses in Macedonia and Thracia

Postby Castor Augustus Servo on Sat Jun 20, 2009 3:27 pm

Marcus Fallentus stand to speak after being given the floor...

"Gentlemen of the Senate, with there to be the outbreak of hostilities soon on the borders of the Thracia and Macedonia, I propose that this Senatorial body grant the construction of five Provisional Warehouses in these provinces, to be constructed by the army."

"The Warehouses will be initially for civilian storage over the winter periods, these regions during the winter months suffer the most over this period and the food stored will make survival in this area much easier especially in rural areas. These warehouses would fall under the duristiction of the provincial governor or the Proconsular Legate in charge of defense of the region. Also with no doubt the added peoples of Moesia and potentially Dacia crossing our borders the extra food will help any new provincials acclimatise."

"In the short term this will show that Rome has not forgotten the provinces and show that despite the slow down in action we ae appearing to do something about it. appreciate that the Emperor is sending new legions to the region but we must also show that we can look after our people."

"So in summay I propose that we build five Provisional Warehouse in both Thracia and Macedonia, these will be constructed by auxilliary troops so will not incur any extra costs in terms of man power, this will aid us both in civil and military concerns. I wish the Senate to discuss this matter."

"In regards to the local economy come spring, and especially once Rome controls Moesia yet again," Senator Postumus Maximinus said, "these warehouses will be useful. They are relatively inexpensive to construct... if I recall the cost is around fifty or sixty thousand sesterces. I support this measure."

"I also support the measure", sai Sejanus Flavianus ", and hope when we retake Moesia, make significant investments in this cronically overlooked province. This province, has I have been told, has some potential e especially in terms of exploring raw materials. However, the lack of investment in there makes one of the poorest provinces of the Empire. And, I beleive is what has lead to past problems in Moesia. A strong economy is the best way to pacify that province"
