Title: Sicilian Disappointment; Demotion or Path to Success?
Year 133 AD
Author: Citizens of Sicilia
Description: "Word has reached Roma that the appointment of Senator Vespasianus Iudicius as Praefectus Sicilia has been meet with disappointment. The former Praefectus, Lucius Hadrius Agrippa, had been a prominent citizen on the island for years and recently, with his grandson Vitellius Sarius Agrippa, had begun using his position and family resources in a way that few praefecti do. There is no outright opposition to the new appointee, but the people clearly wish the status quo had been maintained.
Furthermore Senator Iudicius, brother to the infamous Flavius Iudicius one of Iovinianus Gothicus' pets, recently celebrated his marriage to Vespa Isadria Varinius as he took over his new post. Now while a marriage is usually a time to celebrate many wonder and speculate as to the nature of such a union. Afterall it is a great gossip topic when a man who made such a name for himself in the Roman Senate during the recent crisis marries a woman fourteen years his senior, old enough to be his mother. Though of respectable background and unmarried, the marriage along with the post seems to be a step down for the senator and a possible punishment for his brazen acts in the curia. Or perhaps, this is what people of Sicilia and Roma are meant to think. Afterall, Sicilia is a prominent post and the woman is a Tullii Vitelli. Is he being set on a course for greatness? Or to be forgotten?
Something is afoot..." _________________ Neos Dionysos - Phil
